The Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) has reiterated in a recent discussion that all storage tank information must be submitted to IDHS for Construction Design Release (CDR) for installations of new storage tanks anywhere in Indiana. This applies for installations of both above and below ground tanks regardless of their sizes. The application for the CDR for the storage tanks can be submitted online via the IDHS website or a paper copy can be submitted with applicable fees. The application fee includes a filing fee, a fees per tank (if multiple tanks are included in one notification), and an inspection fee which varies depending on the location of the tank. According to General Administrative Rule 675 IAC 12-6-4, there are exemptions from design release requirements for storage tanks for Class I, II, IIIA or IIIB liquids (e.g., LPG) which have a capacity of 660 gallons or less, that are portable and for temporary use only. IDHS highly recommends to apply online for the CDR as soon as feasible during storage tank construction since the approval process might take anywhere from 45 to 60-days.
