T3 can develop solutions using systems currently in place at your organization. Many custom solutions are built on Microsoft® platforms or use Microsoft applications. Most companies use Microsoft applications and have licenses for their employees. Since these applications are widely used, users are already familiar with navigating and using these applications requiring little or no training. T3’s Microsoft solutions are a cost-effective and budget friendly option to use technology to improve productivity.
Need help with task management? T3 offers a regulatory compliance management system built on the Microsoft® SharePoint® platform. This platform smoothly integrates with the Microsoft Office environment and is ideal for customization. A regulatory compliance management system allows users to:
- Assign tasks to one or more individuals
- Associate tasks to an organizational unit (e.g., business line, plant, area, unit, source)
- Sort and filter tasks quickly
- Send automated email reminders of upcoming or missed deadlines, even to third party vendors
- Track comment history for each task
- Flag and document deviations associated with a task
- Download tasks to a spreadsheet
This cost-effective solution promotes project transparency by keeping tasks and progress visible to all users. Visible progress helps maintain team motivation as well as drive advancement of initiatives, reduce administrative overhead for project managers and/or team leads, and create a historical record of project work. All users can see which tasks are pending or overdue, which ones have deviations, and identify the assignee or responsible official.
Depending on your needs, Sharepoint can address the needs on the following three levels:
- General Compliance Management
- Legal Requirements Registry
- Compliance Calendar
- Compliance Task Management
- Records Management
- EHS Process Work Flows
- Incident Management
- Corrective Actions
- Audits and Inspections
- Safety Permits
- Agency Inspections
- EHS Training
- JHA / PSM
- EHS Information Repository
- Air Emissions Management
- Water Monitoring Results
- Waste Management
- OSHA Recordables
- Key Performance Indicators

Microsoft® Excel® is a very powerful tool that is extensively used in daily EHS work duties. The diversity of available standard or advanced functions, plus the add-in functions provided by third-party vendors, make it a perfect platform to develop tools to meet simple as well as relatively complex needs. Spreadsheet development is usually a quick turnaround and cheaper approach. It can be an ideal solution for tasks involving data manipulation, such as emission calculations, data summarization and reporting.
Tasks that can be accomplished using spreadsheet development include:
- Data input validation
- Rich data manipulation functions (e.g., filtering, sorting, formatting, grouping printing)
- Powerful dynamic lookup functions
- Flexible data summary with pivot table
- Dashboard with abundant styles of charting functions
- Security capability in spreadsheets
- Data integration with process data historian systems, such as Honeywell® PHD, OSIsoft® PI, and Aspentech® IP 21
- Communication (read, write, or even create) with external data (e.g., databases, xml files, other spreadsheets, or text files)
- Tasks automation and standardization with VBA codes
TankESP is a tank emissions calculation program that uses the emission estimation procedures from Chapter 7 of U.S. EPA’s Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors (AP-42) for volatile organic chemical (VOC) emissions from storage tanks. The U.S. EPA is no longer supporting TANKS 4.09d, the emission calculation tool historically used for tank emissions, due to documented technical deficiencies, and no longer recommends its use. TankESP resolves the technical issues with TANKS 4.09d and provides additional functionality for non-routine emissions events.
TankESP was developed by well-known tank expert Robert Ferry at TGB Partnership. As a partner and an authorized distributer, T3 provides license processing and implementation support for TankESP. We have extensive domain knowledge as well as experience using and implementing TankESP. We have implemented the well-established tank VOC emission calculation software, TankESP, for many industrial sites including petroleum refineries, chemical plants, and terminals.
“Trinity Consultants/T3 exhibits the integrity and technical proficiency that I appreciate in a corporate partner, and I have the utmost trust in their capability to support my TankESP software.” – Rob Ferry

Trinity's Tank Tool
Companies are required to perform proper tank emission calculations based on the methodology provided in U.S. EPA’s Compilation of Air Pollutant Emission Factors (AP-42). This complicated process was previously facilitated by EPA’s tanks emissions estimation software, TANKS 4.09d, however, in 2014, the EPA announced it would no longer maintain the TANKS model.
To support industry’s needs, T3 developed and applied alternative tank emissions calculation tools for correct VOC emission calculation methods based on the algorithms specified in AP-42 Chapter 7, which EPA still recommends. Our solutions include well-designed Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheets and databases that can be incorporated into enterprise EMIS solutions.

Gathering field data is a routine yet important requirement. T3 has developed mobile applications that turn mobile devices into powerful, economical tools for EHS and maintenance data gathering and reporting. Using mobile technology for collecting data provides important advantages over cumbersome paper-based systems, including:
- Reduced time and effort associated with recordkeeping and reporting
- Minimized risk of human error
- Easy transfer to database applications for storage and/or printing in various formats
- Automated calculations once data is collected
- Improved accuracy and consistency of recorded data
The Visible Emissions Monitoring System (VEMS™) mobile application facilitates the collection of data on Google Android™ devices and provides Enterprise reporting and administration through a Web-based Interface. The tool can also be integrated seamlessly with EHS Management Information Systems (EMIS) and/or any other information management system. VEMS automates and simplifies recordkeeping and reporting required under U.S. EPA’s Reference Test Methods 9, 22, Performance Testing, and user-defined VE inspection methods for visual determination of emissions from stationary sources. Required records include the presence of visible emissions, quantification of visible emissions (opacity), and information such as emission location, approximate wind direction, estimated wind speed, sky condition, and plume background.
In addition to the standard Visible Emission testing, Pressure Drop monitoring can be performed with the same tool as well as user-customized tests that can be defined in the Administrative Interface. Custom tests can be created with response types to define the type of answer expected from the user, including boolean values, text or character responses, and numeric values with associated limits.
With VEMS, users can track observations back to particular individuals. The system provides a completion indication, letting the user know whether an observation is complete or incomplete, with a user name and date of original input. The system also provides a pass/fail rating for all tests and alerts the user if a test fails which can trigger subsequent follow-up tests. All tests can be scheduled for a variety of frequencies and durations to support the diverse conditions of operating permits. Routes can also be created and assigned to specific users to further increase efficiency.

With this powerful combination of regulatory and technical expertise, we provide turnkey solutions that streamline our clients’ compliance-related practices. We have developed the broadest range of custom solutions, all designed to meet your exact needs and save you time and money.
T3 developed the DIA application to automatically retrieve client specified data from process historians and transmit the results to a third-party EMIS. The DIA application can also perform the compliance related calculations and reporting functions as a standalone software product allowing users to:
- Manage the system hierarchy
- Organize emission sources for multiple sites
- Set system control information
- Add/modify process data tags
- Enter manual user activity data
- Create/update calculation equations and maintain constants
- Set limits for tag values and calculated results
- Generate reports
Reduce the data and validation burden of emission calculations by automating the emissions calculation process for various reporting requirements with the DIA application. It can also send emails regarding data errors and changes made to equations, sources, and limits to designated recipients.
