In a recent environmental conference, Maricopa County Air Quality Department (MCAQD) held a session where they reviewed updates to the MCAQD Adopted rules which were finalized on February 3, 2016 to give context to new guidance documents and rule packages to be released.  Two of the key talking points included:

  • Increasing annual BACT limits from 25 tons per year (tpy) to 40 tpy for volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, and sulfur dioxide.
  • New modeling guidance which details a four step process to conduct modeling in Maricopa County, including guidance for screening and refined modeling softwares.

It is anticipated that the above rule package and guidance document will be in July or August of this year.  Watch out for more on this topic in the upcoming newsletters or feel free to call us at (602) 274-2900!
