On May 21, 2013, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) released the results of the greenhouse gas (GHG) allowance auction which took place on May 16, 2013. The results detail the number of allowances sold, the settlement price, and other market statistics for the 2013 and 2016 vintage allowances. All 2013 allowances that were available for sale at the May 2013 auction were sold at a Settlement Price of $14.00 per metric ton. This is a nominal increase from the Settlement Price of 2013 allowances at the February 2013 auction ($13.62 per metric ton).
For 2016 vintage allowances, the Settlement Price at the May 2013 auction was equivalent to the Reserve Price ($10.71 per metric ton). Almost eighty percent of the 2016 allowances that were available for sale at the May 2013 auction were purchased. For comparison, just under half of the 2016 allowances available for sale at the February 2013 auction were purchased. The document containing the detailed results and statistics for the May 2013 auction, as well as a list of Qualified Bidders, is available here.
On May 28, 2013, final financial settlements are due to the Financial Services Administrator. CARB will transfer allowances into CITSS accounts on June 5, 2013. The next quarterly auction is scheduled for August 16, 2013.
