On August 30th, the Carcinogen Identification Committee (CIC) announced the beginning of a 45-day public commentary period for the addition of five new chemicals to the Proposition 65 Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986.  The CIC is evaluating the inclusion of aspartame, methyl chloride, type 1 pyrethroids, vinyl acetate, and asphalt and associated emissions from road paving or roofing.  Following the public commentary period the CIC will hold a meeting on November 15th to discuss their findings.  No listing decisions will be made at the November 15th meeting.  The findings will be provided to the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), who will make a separate determination regarding listing status.

A summary of available scientific evidence for each chemical can be obtained on OEHHA's website or by calling (916) 445-6900.  Interested parties may submit documents or records to the CIC for consideration by email.  All documents must be received by October 24th to be considered.  Additional information can be found online here.
