The San Diego County Air Pollution Control District (SDAPCD) has decided to revise Table II of Rule 1200 and Rule 1210. Rule 1200 is Toxic Air Contaminants-New Source Review and Rule 1210 is Toxic Air Contaminant Public Health Risks-Public Notification and Risk Reduction. Both rules use Table II, which lists the toxic air contaminants that have chronic, non-cancerous health impacts. The District has determined that ethylene glycol butyl ether (EGBE) (CAS 111-76-2) should be added to Table II.

EGBE is used primarily as a solvent in cleaning products, paints, brake fluids, and inks. It will now be necessary to calculate the public health risk affects caused by EGBE using the standards recommended by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA). For more information regarding complying with the revision to Table II of SDAPCD's Rules 1200 and 1210, visit the District's website or contact our Irvine office at (949) 567-9880.
