The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) held a task force meeting on January 17th, 2017 to discuss Proposed Amended Rule 1147 – NOx Reductions from Miscellaneous Sources.  The rule establishes nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission limits for combustion equipment at industrial facilities.  This proposed amendment will extend compliance dates to offer relief to businesses for small and low-emission units.

The Proposed Amended Rule 1147 will include emission limit changes in Table 1 of the Rule.  These emission limit changes will include changing the NOx emission limit for low-temperature afterburners and oxidizers from 30 ppm to 60 ppm (or 0.036 lb/mmbtu to 0.073 lb/mmbtu).  Compliance dates will also be updated for small in-use units and heated process tanks.  There will also be flexibility for facilities that emit less than one pound per day of NOx emissions.  The amended rule is currently scheduled to be considered for adoption in 2nd Quarter 2017.
