The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) held a working group meeting on September 14, 2016 to discuss Proposed Rule 1430 – Control of Emissions from Grinding Operations at Forging Facilities.  This proposed rule will reduce toxic metal particulate emissions and associated health risks from metal grinding operations at forging facilities.  The rule will apply to facilities that press and grind metal parts for industrial applications.  SCAQMD has identified 37 potential forging facilities that will be affected.  SCAQMD is currently conducting ambient monitoring and site visits at various forging facilities to determine toxic metal particulate emissions from typical activities.  General requirements of Rule 1430 will include emission controls, source testing, enclosures, housekeeping, monitoring, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
