On December 16th, EPA announced the finalized determination to reclassify the Denver Metro/North Front Range (DMNFR) ozone nonattainment area from “Moderate” to “Serious.” The reclassification will require the state to submit revisions to the state implementation plan (SIP) and will trigger lower major source classification thresholds for nonattainment new source review and Title V permitting. The revised SIP will address additional controls in order to attain the 2008 ozone standard, and EPA has set a new deadline of July 20, 2021 to attain the 2008 ozone standard.

The redesignation will become effective 30 days after being posted in the Federal Register (FR). It is anticipated that the FR posting will occur within the next week.
