The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) has approved the Illinois State Implementation Plan (SIP) revision for ozone relating to the Illinois Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (I/M) program. This SIP revision was submitted by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) to the USEPA on November 29, 2012. This rulemaking addresses all the changes made to I/M program since USEPA approved the program on February 22, 1999. It also addresses the changes made to meet the requirements of the federal Clean Air Act (CAA). USEPA has approved these revisions as it was demonstrated that they will not interfere with the State’s efforts concerning attainment of national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) or other applicable requirements of the CAA. This rule is effective September 12, 2014 and more information on this rulemaking can be found in the Federal Register, click here.
