Governor Bruce Rauner has appointed Mr. Alec Messina, his recent Policy Advisor for Environment and Energy, as the new director of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA).  His appointment was effective on July 1, 2016 succeeding the former Director Ms. Lisa Bonnett.  Mr. Messina earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and a law degree from Southern Illinois University; his resume also includes serving as the Illinois EPA chief legal counsel.  Mr. Messina has also served as the executive director of the Illinois Environmental Regulatory Group (IERG).
