In 2017, several National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Stormwater General Permits expired, including:
- NCG030000 - Metal Fabrication
- NCG060000 - Food and Kindred
- NCG080000 - Transit and Transportation
- NCG090000 - Paints and Varnishes
- NCG100000 - Used Motor Vehicles
- NCG120000 - Landfills
Due to limited staff resources and the amount of permits expiring in 2017, the Division of Energy, Mineral, and Land Resources (DEMLR) re-issued each of the permits listed above for a period of one year with no changes. The re-issued General Permits became effective on November 16, 2017 and will expire on Oct 31, 2018. Coverage under the General Permits was automatically renewed by DEMLR if annual fee payments were up to date. Existing facilities were not required to submit a new Notice of Intent (NOI) application to request coverage under the renewed permit.
Additional Stormwater General Permits are set to expire in 2018 (as listed in the table below), which means that DEMLR could take the same one-year extension approach in order to reduce work load at the Agency. It is recommend that owners/operators of affected facilities periodically check DEMLR's website for a status update in the Permit renewal process.
