TCEQ Change to Reporting Requirements in Response to Hurricane Harvey

On August 24, 2017, the Executive Director of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) issued regulatory guidance relating to activities during and immediately following Hurricane Harvey. Texas Governor Greg Abbot has issued suspension of some TCEQ rules and a variety of other related announcements posted here. The website includes updates on current conditions and guidance documents related to hurricane and other disaster response, including waste management, fuel waivers, drinking water, wastewater, and air permit guidance. New announcements will be posted on their website.

Of particular interest, the TCEQ guidance "Air Quality for Permitted Facilities: Responding to Hurricanes," is worth reviewing to understand TCEQ's expectations even if your facility wasn't affected directly by Harvey. The guidance contains specific information related to open burning, facility repairs, emission reporting, startup/shutdown notifications, temporary modifications, and compliance date extensions for testing and reporting.
